Renew PT resident sound healer David Ondrick recently had one of his pieces featured on Deepka Chopra and Ophrah Winfrey’s 21 Day Meditation Challenge – Miraculous Relationships on Day 13, entitled Miraculous Awareness. Their most recent national meditation challenge is being undertaken by nearly four hundred thousand Americans, bringing to the limelight the importance of meditation with sound and mantras. Here is a short sample taken from the beautiful 17 minute live recording, with the theme of staying present.

The power of sound and its effects on our minds, spirit and emotional well-being cannot be underrated. Sounds can influence us in a variety of ways. For instance imagine a siren blaring through the streets of NYC; hearing the soft crash of a wave or a moving piece of music or the cooing of a baby. Sound can transport us to another place and time. Our emotional systems are also greatly influenced by sounds. Think about playing your favorite song in the car after a long, hard day at work. Playing your favorite song can change your mood in seconds. Sound therapy is now thought to be the healing modality for the 21 century. Sound therapy is the use of physical sound vibrations for therapeutic benefit.

The healing benefits of sound cannot be underestimated. Dr Alfred Tomatis, innovator and leader in the field of sound believes that sound feeds and influences our neurological system by delivering electrical messages to our brain. Sound therapy can help reduce pain and depression, promote relaxation and decrease stress. Recent research has also shown that voice toning to premature infants can increase the baby’s oxygen levels, increase their food intake, and influence their brain development. Sound healing is powerful medicine, make no mistake about it, and should be considered as a serious choice for those looking to experience something different or for those who need more to heal.

There are many different types of sound healing modalities, at Renew Healing Center we primarily use voice toning, chimes, singing crystals bowls, tibetan bowls, drums, and tuning forks as part of your sound healing experience. When appropriate we also combine reiki energy with the sound therapy producing a profound long lasting healing experience.

Some conditions that sound healing can influence include:
• Overall Well-being
• Insomnia
• Back pain
• Migraines and neck pain
• Hyperactivity (ADHD)
• Injury recovery
• Pain management
• Emotional stress
• Energy blockages
• Release of trauma
• Post traumatic stress (PTSD)
• Cessation of panic attacks
• End stage cancer stress reduction

Sound therapy is performed on a massage table with the client wearing loose comfortable clothing. Dimmed lights and the aromatherapy scent of choice will facilitate relaxation. An assessment is first conducted to help determine problem areas along with a review of the initial intake form. You are the director of this experience and will participate in making sound during certain times, which helps make the session more specifically tailored to your needs. Your therapist will also explain the course of the treatment and answer any questions you may have.

Sound therapy at Renew PT is very interactive experience where your intention for the session is held and focused on for the hour long session. Sound therapy will help you, not only with your physical illness, but it will also help balance your emotions and instill inner peace. After a sound therapy session your body will be more relaxed and ready to let go of pain and stress putting you on the right healing track Most people feel calm and relaxed following treatment, and for some, this feeling will last several weeks or may be transformational. Testimonials:

– “This is one of the most powerful types of therapy you can ever experience. You focus on an emotion that is trapped in your body and use sounds coming from you to let the emotion out. The sound might be really loud, ugly, and scary, but David was there every step of the way. After this therapy, you feel like you evacuated all the bad feelings and replaced them with good ones. I highly recommend it. Thank you David!” … Jenny Perron, Boot Camp Intensive Patient
